FMS 70mm EDF F4 Phantom V2 in Blue Angels Color Scheme - Receiver Ready (PNP) - GC003

The FMS F4 V2 is here. This new version of the FMS F4 has a new larger and more powerful 2845-3000Kv motor, 10 blade fan, 70A ESC, and runs on a 4S 2200 LiPo. Gone is the high pitched wine of the "typical" EDF jet. The 10 blade fan produces a proper jet sound which will impress everyone at the field. The Motion RC pilots enjoy listening to the F4 as much as flying it. The new FMS F4 retains the fixed landing gear which provides a durable foundation for this scale EDF jet and helps keep the price affordable. The F4 landing gear can removed and replaced in a matter of seconds for those who prefer hand hand launching and belly landing when the situation calls for it.

While the manufacturer recommends a 4 channel radio, the Motion RC pilots prefer to remove the Y cable from the elevator servos and setup the plane as a 5 channel. You will need to install individual servo extensions (not included) and select a "dual elevator" tail on your radio. This allows each individual elevator servo to be sub trimmed for perfect (even) throws and better control. For those who prefer speed, we recommend not installing the drop tanks and missiles. The lack of drag from these items will make the F4 faster. For those who prefer scale details, the F4 does fly fine with the drop tanks and missiles though it will suffer a small performance deficit. This plane looks great, sounds awesome, and is a blast to fly!

Features:

  • New, larger and more powerful 2845-3000Kv Motor
  • New 10 blade electronic ducted fan produces realistic jet engine sounds
  • New heavy-duty 70A ESC with plenty of overhead for fast, aggressive flying

  1. Motion RC flight video needed for this

Posted by Jody Shaneyfelt on 6th Jul 2014

I am very interested in this F-4. I like the reviews I've seen, and just wish you had a video for this version so I could see and hear the 10 blade EDF. Also wish their was a USAF camo version, but the blue angels will work too.. lol

  2. Impressed so far.

Posted by James on 28th Apr 2014

Just received my FMS F 4. Packaged well and no issues upon opening.
Assembly was very easy, to the point where I didn't even open the manual until I was ready to check COG.
Nervously took to field yesterday to run ground tests but the thing lifted off on me so quickly I did a test flight. Very nice flying EDF with plenty of power to go around on a bad approach.
THis phantom seems to float nicely on approach which is helpful to an intermediate, like me, to get back on the ground.
Landing gear seems pretty robust too as I bounced pretty hard on asphalt without any damage.
Seems to be quite a bit of vibration at half throttle from the edf, not sure if this is going to be a problem as I am not huge into working on my planes when I want to be flying them. Hoping to not have to pull the unit out although it appears as if the access is easy.
Did notice the battery was quite warm after about 4 mins flight time. My concern with this is that while it fits really nicely under the hatch, there is no airflow to help cool it.
Only gave 4 stars as I haven't had this plane long enough to give a proper evaluation.
Customs nailed it coming into Canada for another $40 which was a bit of a disappointment but obviously not the fault of MotionRC.

  3. Great EDF

Posted by Chris Tinney on 16th Apr 2014

This is one of my every-day flyers, tracks, takes off, and lands with ease with no bad tendencies. The aileron roll rate is something to experience. Full power stalls are magical, as the airframe performs differently every time, and does things you cannot imagine for an EDF w/o TV. The only drawback is I wish the bat. bay was large enough for a 2500, as it is only a 2200 4s will fit, just have to carry extras for addl flight. Just received the new grey version to maiden.

  4. FMS F-4

Ok I am only rating the build and delivery of this jet. The delivery was awesome 3 days to Northeast PA for FREE!!!! You cannot beat that!!!
The build went smooth, but the nose cone had some dents in it, so I fiber-glassed the interior of the cone to stiffen it up. The Admiral 2500mah battery does not fit with out modification, Sorry!!!
Go to Rc Groups and search for Nitro Planes FMS / AirField 70MM F-4 EDF Jet we have photos of every thing that makes this jet better including the battery compartment changes to make the Admiral 2500mah battery fit!!!!!

Also the decals (stickers) are not the best bubbles in all of them I posted pics on the forum of that too....

Ok I am not complaining just pointing out a few things.

I really like the jet and MRC IMHO is the best for customer service and satisfaction.

  5. f-4 phantom looks like its going 600mph sitting still

being retired navy, always loved the looks of the phantom,i use tp 4cell,2700, 70c batteries, great vertical performance, with new 10 blade fan/motor.the navy blue angel scheme is awesome, thanks motionrc.

  6. Great looking jet

Posted by DAWG on 8th Jan 2014

I read a review where someone wrote about the nose piece being flimsy. I bought an F-18 where the nose was like paper thin. This is what you do. Buy a can of Great Stuff which is a can of Styrofoam sealant that you use in your home. Apply a little at a time because this stuff will expand and when you get near the top shave and sand and now you will have a solid nose cone with a larger gluing area. And believe me it will be tough. I have used this item not just on planes but also on Helios. Just check your CG because it will add weight. Just got my F-4 today and I am happy. The only thing that scared me was the outer box said it was the Grey F-4, and once I opened it , it was the Blue Angels version inside. Can't wait to hear the motor with 10 blade EDF. If it sounds as advertised ,I'll probably order a set up for my F-16. MRC is great. The DAWG!!!!

  7. F=4 Phantom

Airplane very well made. Only downfall I would rate not good is the nose piece. Real Chinsey, all most like plastic paper. Could have been just a bit more solid.

  8. Great 1st EDF and performance

Posted by TF on 9th Sep 2013

Received everything nicely packed as usual from Motion. The Phantom went together pretty easy, and FMS did a great job on the paint. I had issues centering the aileron servos, but with my radio I was able to set endpoints and adjust linkages accordingly. Other then that it was pretty straight forward.

I use a paved runway and fly at 5,200ft elevation. The stock 3000kv motor and 70mm fan still perform great. I'm using a 2200mah 4s 35c lipo, and this EDF takes off in less then 20ft if you want it to. I like longer scale take offs, but either way this thing has power. It's pretty fast at full throttle, and I'd contribute that to how light the jet is. It's still sturdy though. The 70mm fan gives it a good power/weight ratio. If this is your first EDF you'll want to practice slowing it down for landings. Very different then a prop plane. But even with a few hard landings the Phantom is holding up better then I'd thought. The gear hasnt bent at all. And on any abort landings it has plenty of power to high-alpha out of it to do another go around.

I get almost 4min flight time with the batteries I'm using. I dont have any of the tanks or missles installed though (for less drag). I see someone else had an issue with the elevator servo harness. Mine was loose as well, but I still was able to have a very HAIRY maiden. The elevator was jittery and I was some how able to get it back to the ground. Upon further inspection the harness was not plugged tight from the factory, so double check them. I'd recommend this F-4 to anyone and for me has been a nice 1st EDF with great power and good flight characteristics.

  9. Wow!!! Nice Jet.

Posted by Tim Stilwell on 22nd Jul 2013

This is my first order with MotionRC and my first FMS plane and I can't say enough good things about both companies. MRC got this order to me fast and I took my time putting her together and did the maiden flight this morning. She flies like she's on rails and has plenty of power. Took off in less than 4' or so, just make sure you have expo on the ailerons or she's real touchy. Thanks MotionRC and FMS for a great plane and service.

  10. Very good, Great bang for buck

Posted by Keith Silva on 18th Jul 2013

Recieved with no damage, plane goes together very quick, 30 min and she was ready.(I'm experienced builder though). Power is very good it jumps off the ground and you actually want to hold it down a little bit so it builds some speed then let her come on up. Lands and slows down great. Only minus is about 3 min flight on 2200 but it is so light it should fly fine with bigger, just need to remove some foam. Lands great too. I got her on radar in the low 80's so jet experience recommemded. Check your elevator extensions as 1 of mine was loose and would have been disaster if I didnt notice it before takeoff, it was barley in there and was working but would jump around, Another good one from FMS, they are quickly becoming my preffered brand and Motion is awsome, I ordered sunday night and was on my doorstep wed afrternoon with included shipping.
