Similar to the other scale RC planes in the FMS 3D aerobatic lineup, the Yak 54 is yet another incredibly well built aircraft. One of the most innovative features of this plane is that there are no foam hinges on the entire aircraft, all control surfaces utilize nylon hinges. This plane is built like a tank with high quality feature throughout. Multiple carbon spars give the wing the perfect combination of strength and flexibility, the entire plane utilizes 17g metal gear servos (no 9g or plastic gear servos on this plane!), the rudder has pinned hinges for extra safety and performance, and the elevator halves are joined by a thick plastic spar to ensure strength and perfect alignment during fast maneuvers. The Build quality of this plane is second to none.
This plane has the amazing versatility to handle perfectly at both very high speeds and very low speeds. Hovering, harriers, knife edge flight, and outside loops can be performed with relative ease. This is one great plane which is capable of most, if not all, 3D maneuvers. While the FMS Yak 54 is very easy to land, the scale rubber tires and heavy-duty, thick gauge metal landing gear are ready to absorb the shock of the occasional not so perfect landing.
FMS considered every detail when designing this plane. There is even a separate compartment on the bottom of the plane for your receiver and antenna. The receiver compartment is easily accessible by removing a magnetic hatch cover. The separate battery compartment on the top of the plane also has a strong magnetic hatch and plenty of room for a variety of battery sizes.
Many customers ask if this plane can be flown by individuals who do not have any 3D skills or are not 3D pilots. The answer is absolutely YES! The other question we are frequently asked about the FMS 3D planes is how they handle in windy conditions. These FMS 3D planes are absolutely amazing in windy conditions. We encourage you to read the reviews, the Yak 54 looks amazing, flies like its on rails and its innovative durability features are second to none.

After a long break getting in to RC again and this is my first build. Went smooth, except rudder mount - plastic hinges were not aligned and rudder axle would pop out of it. Nothing serious and was remedied with a small file.
Finished plane looks gorgeous and can't wait to fly it this weekend.
Paint and parts fit is excellent, definitely will buy more FMS models in a future.
Like foam packing box which can be used for transporting long distance, so I saved it.
Will post review after first flight.
Thank you all in Motion RC, btw - great videos on youtube!

I just received this YAK-54 and it is my first FMS model. From the opening of the box, I was VERY impressed. Assembly was straight forward and everything went together as advertised. Motion RC shipped out VERY quickly. I haven't had the opportunity to maiden this bird yet...but I am chomping at the bit to do so (they are re-paving and improving my flying field). I am confident it will exceed my expectations though.

The YAK-54 is the best of the three FMS 3D airplanes. The construction is great and very durable. I fly mine with an 80A ESC, 4S/5S batteries and a two blade 14x10 prop .
The plane is an outstanding 3D airplane and will do any maneuver.
I also fly mine with the Eagle A3 Super gyro and doing hovers and knife edges are a piece of cake. Takeoffs and landings are easy, especially with the gyro engaged during stiff crosswinds. This combination will peg your fun meter. The color combination is easy on the eyes. The pilot is the wrong figure because this airplane is flown by a French female acrobatic team.
Flying this type of airplane will hone your all-around flying skills!

My first flight was great. Just what I wanted. It did everything I wanted it to do on the first flight. Second flight went great only problem was I came in a little hard and the landing gear collapse but little damage. looking forward for my third flight.

Shipping very fast ordered on Thursday and received it on
Monday in South Louisiana. Boxed up very good, all parts were spotless. Build simple and fast about 1&1/2 hrs. build time. Did not have time to go to fly field yet, but I feel everything will go very good. Very nice looking Yak.

Seems a little tail heavy with a 2500 4s. Wish it had a normal prop shaft so you could put a 2 blade on it but with the hex nut type spinner it just cant be done and another prop shaft will have to be purchased.

Plane is really mellow and not to overwhelming at first. Very durable only wished the battery compartment was like the sbach.

Received the Yak 54 the other day, could not wait to open the box to see what`s inside. WOW ! Awesome looking airplane. The quality is unmatched , I have a couple other foam airplanes that don't even come close to the craftsmanship of this airplane. The people at Motion RC really have something special from the speedy service to the quality products. I am looking forward to doing business with them again.

First, let me say as many people have, MotionRc's customer service is unmatched...look out big box flyboys.
The build of this plane is very straightforward and easy. I've owned several FMS planes and I'm continually impressed with the advancement in their planes not only from a build and quality standpoint but also from a flying perspective.
The first flight on this plane was with the stock setup except that I replaced the servos with the FMS 17g digital metal gear servos. FYI-very good servos for the money. Take off is easy and stable with very little rudder input needed from the torque of the motor. Once in the air, this plane flies like it's on rails. It's stable, tracks beautifully and can perform any aerobatic move you throw at it. On the stock setup it will do some light 3D but forget about the hardcore moves. Just not enough power and throw on the control surfaces to pull it off. Landing is very easy as long as you keep an 1/8 to 1/4 throttle in it.
I wanted to see how far I could push the 3D envelope with this plane. I replaced the three blade prop with a two blade APC 14x7, put a longer servo arm on the elevator servo and increased my travel adjustments to 150% on all the control surfaces. With the 14x7 two blade prop this plane comes alive and with 70 degrees of elevator travel it can get your heart pounding. Snap rolls are excitingly violent, roll rates outstanding, walls are terrific and parachutes are stable and forgiving. I was a little concerned about the hinge system with the extreme throws but they held up great.
Overall, this plane is very fun to fly. On a stock setup on high rates it will provide a lot of excitement, on low rates, you could sit in a lawn chair and fly it all day. Is this plane for a beginner, no, but I'd highly recommend it for someone looking for an aerobatic plane that is forgiving and exciting at the same time. Keep up the good work FMS and MotionRC.

Nice Airplane in every way !!

If you want a responsive bird that is fun to fly, this is your ticket. I recommend that you have some hours under your belt flying acro and this should be your 4th -5th plane because this thing will do stuff your regular birds will not do. You will need to dial down the throws on this baby to start because at 100%, it is quick at reacting to what ever you throw at it. Run 50% to get use to it than go crazy. This is the First FMS bird I have gotten with zero issue with it and was hesitant at purchasing another FMS item. Hinges are great with plenty of throw. First flight in about 5mph winds and floated it in for a landing and just plopped it down. I highly recommend this bird for any person wanting a little thrill in the flying.

The quality is un matched...
A pleasure to build and fly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For me it flys scale and NOT a big 3D TYPE OF PLANE.
It is worth EVERY cent, so much so I ordered the Extra...
Thank You Motion for VERY INTERESTING planes

I have not flown the plane due to WX.
The build was very easy, everything fit perfectly and worked correctly. That is a plus.
I am impressed with the hinge arangement in this model it is the first I have seen of this type so I give FMS another plus.

So the FMS Yak 54 is a great plane !!! Every single part is perfect,
And you cant beat motionrc.com customer support! I. Fly this plane every week if possible and its awsome. Easy to land and the landing gear is perfect. The only thing i didnt like about the plane was the 4 screws that hold the wings on. I was plannning on keeping the wings off and installing them at the field but that became difficult and was starting to ruin the wings. I then decided to just leave them on for good! Its a big plane but not too big.
I would recomend this plane to anyone!!!!
Honestly better for scale than 3d but can certainly handle 3d
