More nose than Jimmy Durante
My first glider and it was so nose heavy that it crashed. I then added too much tail weight and it flew even worser. Not a good glider compared to the Radian XL.
Nice flyer, the compartment is tight for the esc, battery, and receiver cute plane and flys very well, and easy to put together..
This is a great ep glider. It comes out nose heavy but it has tons of power and flies great. Penetrates a breeze well yet still signals light lift. Flies well on a slope too.
Not happy with this Glider
I bought several Dynam models so far and usually the quality is right. This time i bought this Sonic glider and had right from the start with all kinds of trouble. Unpacking i had to learn that both wing tips where damaged during shipping. hooking up my receiver i had to learn that the elevator servo did not work. Missing push rod linkage on rudder and elevator control horn. the Control horn had a bigger hole for linkage but they connected the thinner wire direct to the horn. The fuselage had sections where they where not glued together. Other places there was to much glue that was smeared along the seam. The Magnet of the cowling was loose even it was originally glued on with lots of hot glue. The wing tube covers on both wings where not glued in flush. There is a 1/16 thick section sticking out of the wing on both sides. My goal is to report shortcomings like i found them and i hope this will be posted even i have few negative points.
BUILDER BEWARE CONTINUED.
I wrote the previous beware review. I didn't. I bought a second one and assembled it. I thought I did anyway. It built well until I bound it. When this was done, so we're the elevator and left aileron servoes. I had to replace them to get the proper controls. I'm curious to see how she handles now. I hope it's well.
My second Sonic185
Learned to fly with my first Sonic, and a Zagi. Probably crashed it 50 times, including breaking the nose off completely a couple of times. Finally retired the motor and fashioned a slope-soaring weighted nose cone. Now a friend, who learned with it, is still flying it on the slope. I believe they quit making it, so get one!
Well built, but nose heavy!!!
This plane has been around for years. I understand it is being discontinued. Shame. Flies very well, but be advised, out of the box it is extremely nose heavy due to the oversized (IMHO) Dynam motor. Even a 2S 1000mAh battery placed as far back as possible will still require you to use up to 28 grams(!!!) of lead on the tail to get the CG in the recommended range. If you don't, expect a LOT of porpoising on your maiden! Anyway - it deserves 5 stars as it is well-made and robust. I'm sufficiently smitten with the Sonic that I've ordered parts for a second one that I'm going to fully customize (acrylic paint) and fit out with a more reasonably sized motor to avoid the nose-heavy state. Motion RC is a pleasure to deal with. No worries there, either.
Assemnled very easy, very good
Assemnled very easy, very good quality
OK, got your attention. If your a builder, this is'nt the plane for you! The assembly(there's really no construction) is only, count them, 5, yeup, five steps long. It takes longer and more work to take it out of the box it came in, then to assemble it. But don't fret. Shes a GRAND flier. Not much on assembly, but a overfun producing flier. ENJOY!
