Freewing de Havilland DH-112 Venom
Excellent kit, lots on wiring to stuff in small places, but can be done. Flys great on the 90mm EDF roughly 4:00 run time on 6S 5000mah.
First Class product, excellent attention to detail, flies like a dream. Good work!! Peter Rogers.
Venom Hinge warning
Just checked the hinges on my Venom flaps that started to really flap about. Warning - the poor quality 'Durafly' hinges used on this plane are glued in with a rubber cement only on the ends. Two gave way halfway into a flight and came out causing the flap to almost separate from the wing. I re-glued the hinges and applied a little balsa plug to keep them solid. Checked all the other hinges and had one aileron and one elevator hinge coming loose. better check them all after each flight now I guess.
Wow! this Venom flies great!
Even here at 5300' elevation the airplane has excellent power and vertical performance. It's about 5mph faster than my friends 80mm Hawk. Wings level power-off stall has a very gentle wing drop. It glides like a seagull and definitely needs as much flap as you can get to land...nice & slow. Mods: replace main gear springs with fuel tubing cut to the same length as the springs. Same on the nose gear, only shorter to make the plane have less wing incidence on landing to prevent bouncing which is an issue other pilots have experienced. I'm using a Spektrum DX9 Tx and AR7350 Rx with AS3X selectable on the right slider. LiPo is a 6S Admiral 40C and static current draw is 100A full-throttle. Aggressive flight time 4 minutes. It can cruise at 1/3 throttle.
She looks good, kinda.
I haven't flown her yet. She is pretty but her nose gear won't work. It won't go up, but when it does, it won't come down. I'm not in the mood for a nose landing, so I ripped the doors off and got it working, kinda, I hope. I'll let ya know how she rolls.
Really easy to fly.
I didn't expect this thing to be so easy to fly. It's like a medium performance glider. I could train people on this thing. The only thing about it that I didn't like was the wiring rat's nest in a fuselage when it came but a few minutes of cleanup fixed that and it was ready to go. Oh, don't use the provided epoxy, use foam cure instead.
By far the SWEETEST EDF I have ever flown! Whoooooosh!!
I honestly came to MotionRC's website to buy the Super Scorpion. What did my eyes catch on the first page when I was looking up EDFs? The deHavilland Venom V2. I literally stopped in my tracks, remembering how way-back-when I wanted this jet. I like "different" so it immediately caused me to reconsider my purchase. After what seemed to be only a few minutes, I found myself ordering the silver V2. Assembly was quick and simple, and no mods necessary. Well, just one... I hogged out a little foam behind the canopy to fit my receiver (my receiver has top-mounted pins rather than side-mounted pins so I needed a little extra room) but that was it. The maiden flight was completely uneventful and only a few days later. Everyone - including myself - just can't get over how WONDERFUL the sound this jet makes! There is literally no motor noise... only the most awesome whoooooosh of moving air and nothing else. The plane cruises comfortably at 40% throttle and I get a 6-minute flight on a 5000 mAh pack. It's really almost overpowered with the stock system and you never really need full throttle except on takeoff. And takeoff rolls from my grass field is probably 20 ft. if not less. Highly, highly recommend this jet for relaxing EDF flights. Can't say enough good things about it! Everyone always comments on it at the field.
Venom Swiss 90mm EDF V2 - PNP
Plane came well packaged with no damage.Build went without a hitch. The plane flew smooth and sounds great.
My new all time favorite!
Words cannot describe the thrill and ease of flying and owning this airplane! Two flights and it's my favorite of ten in the hangar. Takes off from our grass field in just a few feet without flaps and lands sweet without flaps again on the grass. Not one click of trim required. Get four minutes with Admiral 6s 4000. Best of all it doesn't almost sound like a turbine, It sounds just like a turbine!
