F-4D Phantom II "Ghost Grey" 90mm EDF Jet from Freewing - PNP - FJ31212P

Freewing F4-D Phantom II 90mm EDF Jet - Winner for Best Scale Jet at 2018 AEF.Aviation enthusiasts have long loved the F-4 Phantom, and Freewing and Motion RC are extremely proud to introduce our 90mm Super Scale Series rendition of this ultimate warfighter!  For more than 50 years, the F-4 Phantom delivered the versatile capabilities required of an all-weather frontline supersonic interceptor, fighter-bomber, SEAD, and reconnaissance platform. Less than a year after its retirement from US military service, you can still keep the F-4 Phantom flying in your RC fleet!

This limited edition “Ghost Grey” version honors two distinguished men in our customer family, General Keith “Shadow” Stalder who flew BuNos 061007 as part of US Marines Squadron VMFA-531 “Grey Ghosts”, and Robert “Hoot” Gibson who flew with the US Navy’s VF-111 “Sundowners” aboard the USS Coral Sea in 1972-1974. A detailed waterslide decal set is included depicting both pilot’s aircraft, and we are grateful for their input to help us ensure these decals’ accuracy! Join us in proudly flying General Stalder’s and Hoot Gibson’s aircraft’s markings, or for pilots wanting to customize their F-4 with their own scheme, we recommend Callie-Graphics.com.

RC pilots have consistently requested a large F-4 EDF jet that performs excellently out of the box without endless modifications. We developed this F-4 to deliver reliability, durability, and performance from your very first flight.  Grass operation is a hallmark of the Freewing 90mm F-4. With its wide stance, tall main tires, Oleo suspension nose strut and concealed trailing link suspension main struts, this aircraft performs well on rougher grass fields.

Super scale details include accurate dual landing lights flush-mounted into the scale operating nose wheel doors, DayBright position lights, rivet detail, static arrestor hook, and period accurate ordnance comprising four AIM-9D Sidewinders and two 370 gallon fuel tanks on removable hardpoints. Plastic details include pitot tubes, ejection seat pull rings, and molded exhaust nozzles.  The large fiberglass nose cone is magnetic and removable, and the chin pod beneath it is foam, allowing easy removable and customization for other versions (-C or late -D). An optional, highly detailed 3DPUP set (“3D Printed Upgrade Part”) is available that represents the correct Mk H-7 ejection seats and cockpit instrument panels in high detail. Download the 3D Print-ready files for free!

Such a large RC model aircraft remains easy to transport with magnetic removable fiberglass nose cone and removable wings with a convenient flexible wire harness that attaches at each wing root.  Large flaps, brass ball links, reliable control hardware, and digital servos throughout the aircraft provide positive control, and a specially designed elevator mechanism incorporates two ball bearings for smooth rotation at all times.

The Freewing 90mm F-4 Phantom II is available in two power system versions.  The Standard version requires a 6S 5000-6000 mAh LiPo battery, and is our top recommendation to pilots seeking the best balance between speed, thrust, and cost. The High Performance version requires an 8S 5000 mAh LiPo battery, and delivers increased vertical climbing performance and acceleration. The High Performance version is recommended for Advanced pilots only due to the aircraft’s higher speed envelope and heavier flying characteristics.

Own the biggest and best performing foam EDF F-4 Phantom in the world – Rejoice RC pilots, Freewing has delivered another grand slam!

Product Updates:

  • Sept 21, 2018 - This update is specific to the new Grey color version of the 90mm F-4D. The grey version of this model includes two decal sets, one Marines "Grey Ghosts" and one Navy "Sundowners." The plane comes painted to accept the decals for the Grey Ghosts variant. If you wish to use the Navy Sundowner livery, it will look best if you paint your vertical stabilizer white before applying the decals to the tail section. Use a foam safe paint such as basic latex paint available at major hardware stores.
  • March 22, 2018  -  For modelers with access to a 3D Printer or who want to use a third party 3D printing service, we are offering for a limited time the original .STL files for free download.  Modelers are responsible for preparing the file for their own printer’s specifications.  These downloadable files are ideal for modelers who enjoy tinkering with printer settings and materials.  Please note, we only provide the .STL files themselves; we cannot provide tech support for your specific printer.   By downloading the .STL files, you agree to not monetize the file in any way without Motion RC’s express written consent.  If you have your own 3D printer, or have access to one, you can download the STL files directly at this link.  (There are 22 total STL ladder, cockpit and nozzle files, formatted for 3D printing included in this .ZIP file).

Adding a photo to an earlier review

I reviewed the plane earlier and gave it five stars. I bought two of them I liked it so much.

Great phantom airframe in gray and white

Ok after having flown the camo F4 extensively and loving it , I went for the grey version because I really wanted to do the sundowner livery , and max it out with 10 cell JP hobby metal fan / motor combo . I haven’t completely assembled the kit yet , but everything looks good out of the box . I was disappointed , however , that the included decals for the sundowner scheme only included the white rays for the vertical stab , and had the half circle decal in red . I was expecting the red rays and I would paint the tail white . Or they could’ve just included the red in between the white as larger decals , like I’ve seen on others from Callie graphics . So kind of at a standstill with the tail , not sure if I should paint the whole vertical red and put the white decals over it but then the red might show through . Was this a misprint by whoever made the decals , ? Should I apply the white rays and red half circle then hand paint in the red rays ? .. . Otherwise great finish and paint as usual .

I like it so much I bought two

Another great success by Alpha and the talented team at Motion RC. It’s clear how much thought and attention went into every aspect of the Phantom II, both the USAF and USMC/USN variants. Just the best, many thanks to all at Motion RC.

She's a Beauty

I have 4 flights on this plane, and it's time to write a review. First of all, this has to be the best looking RC plane I've ever seen. This thing looks fantastic! The detail throughout is top notch. The detail in the cockpit is outstanding and thing looks amazing in the air. The plane came with 2 decal schemes, and both require the tail to be painted. That was no problem, but I ran into 2 problems trying to make the scheme I wanted. I wanted to do the one with the rising sun on the tail, but i couldn't match the red color. It's a really bright red. The 2nd problem was the rising sun decals. i've been doing plastic models for about 40+ years, but the tail decals were impossible for me. The complex curves of the tail, the servo, and gaps on the tail made it impossible for me. I ended up making a customized decal scheme out of the available decals instead. It still looks really good, but I just couldn't make it look like the way it's supposed to be. Oh well. The Build: The decals are water slide and there are a lot of them, so it took me about 3 hours just to do the decals. After that, it was really simple. There aren't may parts and they fit perfectly, so it goes together really easily. I put the battery as far forward as possible with allowing the hatch to close, and it balances perfect right at the recommended spot. I didn't cut out the bottom of the cockpit like the video showed to move the battery farther forward. It wasn't necessary. Flying: I spent extra time to make sure I set the throws up exactly as recommended in the manual (by millimeters, not %), and they were too much. It was WAY too touchy, so after the first flight, I dialed down both aileron and elevator. I also dialed up the expo to 40%. Now, I've got the aileron at 65% throw and that's perfect for normal flight. I set the elevator up as recommended (8mm nose up), and it wasn't enough, so I had to trim in a bunch of UP elevator on the first flight (about 15 clicks). So, I would estimate about 12-14mm needed of UP elevator at neutral. The UP trim for the Flaps is right on as recommended in the manual.' The plane flies great, although it feels like you have to "pull" it through a turn. Some planes will start to turn when you bank them, but this plane needs pulled through a turn. No big deal, except when setting up to land, so definitely work on rudder turns when turning to land. It needs a lot of power when the flaps and gear are down. Speed is pretty good. Not a barn burner, but good enough. It rolls and climbs well. Issue: I had a problem with one of the aileron servos going crazy. Had to change it out. In summary, this plane is really a stunner, and if you're thinking about an F-4, this one is fantastic. It's a must-have if you're into military jets. Enjoy!
