L-39 Albatros 80mm EDF Jet - PNP from Freewing - FJ21511P

Combining the sport performance of the Avanti and the fidelity of scale aircraft like the A-4 and MiG-21, Freewing continues the legacy of its excellent performing 80mm EDF jets with its Freewing 80mm L-39C/Z Albatros!  Developed originally by Aero Vodochody in the 1960s in what is now the Czech Republic, the Aero L-39 Albatros excelled as a jet trainer platform with its powerful turbofan and overall reliability.  The L-39 and its successive variants continues in service throughout the world in militaries as trainers and light attack platforms, and in civil aviation including aerial demo teams and racing.

The Freewing L-39 Albatros is the largest and most capable production PNP L-39 in the world.  Optimized for high maneuverability and precision flying, the L-39 truly is a “Sport jet wearing Scale jet clothing”.  The PNP version uses a powerful 3530-1850kv brushless motor and 100A ESC to power the 12 blade 80mm EDF.

The Freewing L-39 Albatros includes grass capable suspension landing gear, a full coverage nose door, scale wingtip lights, and easily removable tip tanks, ordnance, belly gun pod, and wings.  Only one glue joint is required to complete the model’s general assembly.  A plastic lined cockpit also resists deformation under sunlight, and optional 3D Printed cockpit detail upgrade parts are also sold separately.

Perfect training scale Jet

That’s my third Jet after Stinger 90mm and F-22 8S 90mm and it flies as well and easy as a Stinger (sport jet) but with a better flight time thanks to 80mm 6S EDF and a better style...the retracts are perfect on every airfields! That’s a must have Jet ! Just added some black points on the small rivets for a scaler look

Awesome

My first 80mm and I am really impressed. Assembly was easy, quality finish and parts. Easy to assemble, then came the maiden and I was not disappointed in fact quite impressed, 2 clicks aileron for trimming and was flying straight, take from grass was uneventful, however make sure you have a long strip off grass for take off since it takes a about 5 seconds at full speed before the take off. The sound its great, I don’t have a gyro on it and I don’t think it needs it but it will probably benefit if it had one. Landing was perfect, full flaps and slows enough for a nice landing, I did not have any elevator mixing. The colours are easy to see in the sky. (Blue, white and red), I am looking forward to more successful landings. If you are on the fence about this plane, you won’t regret buying it and you will enjoy flying it. Thanks MotionRC.

I wrote earlier about wobble I had been experiencing

its gone now..Turned up the gain on my A3-L and now is my favorite plane...Landing gear on grass is very robust and have no bending issues..Very strong gear so far.. its favorite battery's are the 6000 and the admiral 5100... likes the wieght and the extra C's goes vertical !!! Just purchased a spare ARF for later times when Im broke..This hobby takes all my money but The pain feels good at the field on a beautiful day..

First Freewind jet

This is my first large jet. The L39 went together in about 2 hours. The initial flite was very smooth all worked. Looks great in the air and is very fast.

Best of both worlds...

Been away from the hobby for 25 years and had many fast prop planes, but EDF's weren't available yet. Decided to go for it, and chose to go with the L-39, and I'm not regretting it. Assembly was a snap, overall details, and build quality is very good. Paint could have been masked better, but who sees that when it's in the air. I Followed the recommended throws, tossed a 6s 5000 in it, set the CG, and off we went. Overall impression is that this plane is a hoot to fly! Like it's on rails... I'm using a receiver-gyro combo, but had it set to about 25% equally on all control surfaces, but it appears that the plane would be fine without a gyro too. Handling is solid with no adversities and aerobatics are a breeze. It just goes where you put it, and cruising at half to three quarters throttle is effortless. Full flap landings with mixed elevator (I actually took some out) provides a nice and controllable approach. This thing just slows right down, so keeping some maintenance throttle in until you cross the apron, then pull the power back with just a light flare, and it'll drop right in.. no surprises. It handles crosswind landings with ease too... So, overall I'm very impressed that I have a scale bird that flies like a sport plane. I think I'll keep it! I'm also seeing flight times with the 5000 pack at 4 minutes with mixed throttle, and then it's good for approach and landing without an issue staying above 3.7 volts/cell.
