Great Flyer, needs upgrade for landing gear springs.

This plane handles as good as many 3D planes and the safe feature makes it foolproof for landing even in the wind. I only got to land it four or five times before one of the springs broke on the landing gear so E-flite needs to look into that. I see from other reviews that this is a common problem, otherwise this is a winner!

GREAT plane; less than perfect landing gear

Everything construction wise and flight wise I couldn’t ask for better....landing gear gave up on second landing...ordered the springs for the “timber”; trimmed the yellow cross piece to the size of the timber cross piece, had to cut about a half inch off of the length....what a difference!!!! Now it has GREAT landing gear; went with 3 inch wheels (thin) and I am in flying heaven!

Clip wing cub

I would give it 3 thumbs up if i had an extra. By far the easiest and best flying model I've flown yet. Tracked perfectly straight on takeoff, never had to adjust trim during the flight, and settled right in on landing. Flew around the pattern on third throttle, full stable and would still loop and roll. Open it up and it will climb vertical on a 2200mah. Fully aerobatic when you want it to be, or putt around like a cub. Must have in the hanger.

Fun plane

This plane is a ton of fun to fly,it's easy to assemble and disassemble on site. The only problems i have with the plane are the fact that the canopy comes off too easily and blade strikes occur to easily. Even a slightly rough landing on pavement will result in a blade strike. I changed the blade out to a 3 blade 11x8 and it has fixed the problem. Other than that the plane has a great range of flying from mild to wild, it is by no means a 3D beast but it is very fun to fly knife edge, do rolls and just throw around. The plane is very stable in normal flight and easy to fly and looks great in the air.

Great plane

The Clipped Wing Cub is well built and extremely aerobatic. It will fly reasonably slow or very fast if you like. It tracks straight and doesn't have any bad tendencies. However you will need the 2600 or 3300 3s batteries. This little plane is truly a"hot rod in disguise" as advertised. When I received this plane the landing gear was only functional on one side. I thought it would work, but on the second landing it broke the spring on the landing gear. Motion RC doesn't have any parts available for this plane, so I ordered a new landing gear set from Horizon Hobby. This gear seems to be perfect and I have flown it several times with no problems. I called Motion RC about a replacement and they still don't have parts available and I was told there was little I could do about it. I realize after 40 years of RC flying, the clipped wing plane needs to land with a some throttle, but I was disappointed that the landing gear was so poorly made and that Motion could not make good on the part.

Sweet Little Plane!

This is a very nice cub that is a bit different from the Parkzone Sport Cub. With the BNF you get SAFE option if you wish to use it and of course it has the AS3X. The build on this Clipped Wing Cub is very simple and straight forward. Really like how easy the wings come on and off with the struts that are just really clipped in securely to the fuselage and one large plastic screw at the top of the wings. Also really like that actual hinges are used for the flight control surfaces rather than just the pressed foam and tape. The hardware for the connections to the servos, pushrods, horizontal stabilizer, and control horns are also upgrades. Again, very nice! The weak spot on this plane will be the cross springs for the landing gear. A rough landing will blow out one or both of the springs and you'll have to buy a whole new landing gear set. You can't buy just the springs themselves. The finish on the plane is very nice and the paint seems to be a bit more rugged than what is typically found on E-Flite or Parkzone planes. Only downside to the finish is that it is flat, no shine at all. The plane is very easy to fly with no bad tendencies. You can fly it quite slow and docile or really throw it around the sky if you wish. If you have Parkzone's Sport Cub you'll find that this plane is a bit heavier and has no flaps. Thus you can't float it in as slowly as the Sport Cub, but do need to keep up a bit more speed because of the extra weight and lack of flaps. Not really an issue though. It has a 10 size motor which is bigger than the usual motors put in planes of similar size by E-Flite or Parkzone which are 480's. Use a 2600mAh 3S battery or bigger with this plane. I use either the Admiral 2600 or 3300 3S batteries. There is some confusion about the float set up for this plane. The diagram in the manual shows a different set of floats than what is listed as the correct set of floats to get for this plane in the manual. Part number for the float set is HBZ7390 which is the Hobby Zone float set. This is the same float set used for the Parkzone Sport Cub and the E-Flite Valiant. I know, I have both these plane too and fly them off the water. This is also the correct float set to use for the Clipped Wing Cub. Again, the manual shows a picture of a different float set and float strut setup. Just use the float struts that come in the box with the Clipped Wing Cub along with the cross struts that come with HBZ7390 Hobby Zone float set and all will be fine. Forget what the diagram shows you in the manual. I also had to use some small washers on each of the four screws that secure the float struts to the fuselage because just the head of the screws were probably not going to be enough to secure the struts to the fuselage. Overall, a very solid plane that is a pleasure to fly. E-Flite seems to have really thought this one through (the weak landing gear being the exception). I certainly recommend it!
