48" Wingspan E-flite P-51D Mustang BNF Basic V2 with AS3X and SAFE - Bind-N-Fly (BNF) - EFL8950
Out of the gate, the 1941 prototype of the P-51 was impressive. However, trials revealed that the super-sleek machine needed the right tweaks to become a true thoroughbred. The magic formula was realized with the P-51D Mustang because it had the performance, weapons and range to outperform any challenger of the day. After WWII, thousands of the P-51D aircraft remained in service with numerous countries around the globe—some till as late as 1980. The E-flite P-51D Mustang 1.2m model captures the legendary U.S. Army Air Core fighter at its peak when it was with the 334th Fighter Squadron and features the kind of performance, detail and flying quality that’s sure to impress.
Even standing still, the realistic four-blade propeller, outline and cockpit detail highlight the laser-focused attention given to pull off a popular subject like the Mustang. Each scale flap section features the precision of independent servo operation while the retractable main landing gear features reliable electric operation that looks smooth. Construction with Z-Foam™ material keeps the overall weight low and delivers level of airframe durability that’s ideal for everyday flying. But the exclusive feature that makes this definitive aircraft the choice for having a great flying warbird experience is AS3X technology. That’s because the compact Spektrum™AR636A DSMX receiver installed features an AS3X/SAFE system specially tuned to give you rock-solid flight performance similar to the experience you’d have with an expertly set up model many more times its size. Whether you’re an intermediate or advanced pilot, the P-51D Mustang 1.2m will help you enjoy what flying a legendary thoroughbred is all about.
Technology that Makes Flight More Satisfying
The advanced AS3X (Artificial Stabilization – 3-aXis) system built into the Spektrum™ 6-channel AR636A receiver is what helps give this model an incredibly solid look in the air and feel to you at the controls. As a result, your workload to fly smoothly is significantly reduced, making a warbird like this Mustang the best flying experience possible.
The installed main landing gear feature reliable electric retraction with covers over the steel struts and outer gear doors that enhance the scale appearance.
A light wing loading, plus operational flaps, gives this warbird a significantly greater flight envelope with the ability to takeoff in shorter distances and land more slowly.
15-Size Brushless Power System
The power system features a 15-size outrunner with 850Kv and a 40-amp ESC that when combined with your 2200mAh 3S 25C Li-Po battery delivers outstanding thrust.
Construction with durable Z-Foam™ material offers the ability to replicate complex detail with greater accuracy while providing a lightweight airframe that’s easy to maintain.

Great Little Warbird for The Money
I finally got a chance to fly my new Mustang a few weeks ago. Sadly, I only got in one 5-minute flight because it started raining. Typical November weather in Joliet, Illinois. The good news; I brought it out to our field at Joliet RC Club on a weekday afternoon and I had the whole place to myself. So I warmed up with a couple 6-minute flights on my FMS Votec 322 before firing up the P-51. Then I got my P-51 setup and set it out on the tarmac. I taxied around for a bit to get a feel for the ground handling, checked my control surfaces and transmitter range and I was ready to go. Set the flaps at the partial flaps position, set the rates on low, powered up and it rotated and took off like the real thing! I pulled up the main gear, pulled up the flaps and throttled out at about 90%. Barely needed any trim at all, just a little down elevator and it was flying straight and level. I had the AS3X Safe Mode turned off the whole time. Flipped my rates to high and started to do some loops and rolls. There was only about a 4 MPH crosswind and this baby flew like it was on rails! I was impressed with how solid it flew. I wish we could get longer flight times with these electric planes, because I never want to land, just keep flying, LOL. Well, now my transmitter timer was beeping, time to land. I did a couple low and dirty passes with full flaps and gear down to get the feel for the slow flight, this is my first warbird and also the first plane this small that I have ever flown. All my other planes are larger scale. I came in on final approach, lined up on the center line and just let it drop right in. It came down with no bad tendencies, flying nice and level. I just started to release a little elevator let it settle down, flared and put the main gear down first, tail high, rolled down the runway a few yards, let off the elevator and the tail-wheel settled right down to the runway, killed the throttle and the plane slowed down nicely, taxied back to the flight line and I was ready for another flight. But alas, the drizzle turned into a steady light rain and it was time to go. All I can say is; I cannot wait to fly my E-flite P-51 Mustang V2 again! It is an awesome airplane that flies great, handles like a dream and lands like a full scale Mustang. I am very impressed!! I just wish flight times could be about 10-minutes or longer.
E-flite P-51D review
The E-Flite P-51D is an awesome rc plane. I’m fairly new to the hobby, but the quality is very good for the money and the plane flies fantastic. As this was my first warbird it did take me a few takeoffs to get the hang of it, but now can take off and land as good as most of the guys at the club I joined. I would highly recommend this plane as the first warbird after learning how to fly on a trainer. The giro and safe mode are there to help you if you get in trouble. However, in my case the takeoff was the hard part as even with safe mode you have to give the plane full up elevator to hold down the tail until the tail lifts off the ground and you can give it more throttle and takeoff.
Smooth, fast flying plane! Great intermediate plane with the safe select feature. I love it!
We all know there are tons of war birds out there but this one is the best for your first! This was my second plane to buy, The Apprentice was my first to learn on, and what a joy to fly! I was really nervous of course, but I stuck to the basics and off she went! Handles amazingly, especially it’s stall charteristics, little to no wing dip. If you want to go fast, slap in a 4S 3000 mah and she will blow you away. Wanna go slow and long, put in a 3S 3200 mah, drop the flaps and enjoy 12-15 min of flight time. The retractable landing gear? Well how do I say awesome two times?! Now with all that hype, two concerns you should know: the tires are super hard! Take it easy on your landings because you will break a gear. Power; be careful if you use the 4S, the torque is unreal and she likes to pull hard to the left on take off. Once you get use to her, both are no longer an issue.
Eflight p51 D Mustang
Another awesome plane by Horizon. I have now purchased one of the finest planes in my collection. Been flying rc planes 30 some years now and bnf is the best technology ever for rc! This is my first 6 channel plane, programmed the remote per the manual, and the maiden flight was flawless! Buy one and enjoy the experience of a beautiful warbird that fly’s like it’s on rails !! Put in 4 cell 2200 and ya it’s fast too !
This is my first Warbird
This is my first Warbird plane and I can tell you it flies great, it was so easy to assemble and control in the air. Motion RC you guys come through all the time and your customer service is above and beyond what is to be expected from an RC company. I am in the process of putting landing and Nav lights on the plane. I really enjoy this plane. I plan on getting my next Warbird from you guys. Thank you.
So far so good it fly's like a dream.....
Impressive bird! SAFE makes it a nice step up from trainer or UMX
To me, eflite is the great equalizer. While warbirds have traditionally been reserved for only the most experienced pilots, eflite has crafted such an amazing flyer, that anyone with solid 4-channel experience could find a way to fly this, especially with SAFE. I'm sure it still has it's warbird 'tendencies', but keeping up decent speed, there is nothing this bird can't do. The attention to detail on this plane is unbelievable. Everything is done with such high quality, and for me not having a ton of time to make mods and swap out parts, this is exactly what I needed. Flies great right out of the box, no trim needed. I just used the recommended 3s 2200 mah battery, installed everything to manufacturer spec, CG lined up perfectly, and off we went! I will note... This plane is not for beginners. But if you have 4-channel experience to the point you don't even have to think about what you're doing in the air with a smaller/slower plane, this could be a perfect step up for you.
