Retracts and landing gear
Great value for well designed products.
They work, but inspect often
The set screws will loosen up so I locktite them. The E-Clips that retain the wheel on the axle I replaced with good ones. I had one fail, lost the wheel and damaged a prop. I also placed a washer behind the clip as they will dig into the plastic of the wheel and un-seat or come of. The screw that travels in the slot on the strut needs to have locktite applied as I had one come out and the gear would not retract due to over extension of the strut. In doing all this they work well and I have had no problems at all after many flights. Our field has a dirt strip.
electric landind gear
works perfect for my installation on a p51
Very weak Landing Gear not made for grass
I have been flying for a very long time lots of experience, I fly everything from trainers to 3d. These Landing struts are not made for grass fields unless it's a golf course grade grass. But the only plus is Motion RC and their staff. Great company and staff!!!!!!!
Outer gear door attachment
The screw that holds the spring wire for the outer gear doors is too short. A small amount of vibration and the screw falls out. I tried locktite and it didn't hold. Used a drill bit by hand and chased the existing hole till it broke thru and used a longer screw

still a major uncorrected design flaw
I have been harping on this for a few years, now. I have heard that the 1400mm P-51s have corrected this problem, but I am still shelling out needless money on these flawed gear for the 1700mm P-51. I love the airplane and the gear, most of the time. But the flaw is that the curved strut that connects the landing gear barrel to the main wheel is held on with a set screw, not WELDED as it should be. When you have any stress on the wheel or gear, it is probable that eventually this joint will move, and break the fragile scale plastic tubing on the outside. The results being: you have to buy 2 new gear. Please get the manufacturers to weld this joint, and the problem is solved! BTW, I "baby" my rc planes, and most cases landings are very smooth and no stresses on it.
Not really made for Grass Fields
These are goid landing gears, but if you fly on grass you will be constantly making adjustments. Which is also positive about these gears and if your handy, you are able to realign them with relative ease. But if need to the adjustment that requires removing the wheel it's a pain in the but.
Replacement Landing Gear
I had to replace both main landing gears due to a hard nose-over. Something had to break and I preferred the main landing gears rather than the retracts. The fit was perfect and it only took a few minutes to replace. I corrected the problem that caused the hard nose-over and have six smooth landings on the new set. I really appreciate Motion RC's prompt service and fast delivery of the new landing gears.
Fit Perfect but ...
The good news is the replacement part (only needed one) fit perfectly. LIke the dual set screw approach. Easy to install. Worked great out of the box. Love the stout, spring loaded shocks. Wish all RC planes came with landing gear like that. The bad news is shouldn't not have needed replacement in the first place! That is, one side of the original set broke a small weld holding upper and lower parts for which the set screw couldn't accommodate. A landing that brakes a metal weld, on spring loaded gear, would typically destroy a plane. This plane had no hard landings. Some of the other reviewers noted about other parts breaking unexpectedly. The design is pathetic as FMS takes one piece of straight steel and tries to hold a curved piece of steel together with a set screw on the most stressed part of an airplane. VERY POOR design. Why not just make the lower and upper all one piece? I thought of taking a mig welder to it but the plastic was too close. Unfortunately FMS continues to use low quality parts (I replaced all horns and links with heavier Dubro's). They are getting better but if there were any other choices for electric 1700 mm aircraft, I'd be shopping elsewhere. Also, the gear should be sold in singles as I now have a side I don't need.
rettro fiting these retracks on another brand of P-51 aIRFIELD 57.09"
I was thinking about buying a set of these FMS retracts for their 57" and 67" p-51 Mustangs to see if I could fit them on my Airfield P-51 with 57" wing span. and go from there. I do know the prop's will interchange with both brands of planes, as long as you use both there mounting hardware that goes with the prop, they will indeed retrofit either way you choose to set them up. With that said please if you pilots know or have done a swap please post a comment so I will know if or if not to order. Thanks guys
