FMS P-51B Mustang Dallas Darling 1450mm (57") Wingspan - PNP
FMS 1450mm (57") P-51B Mustang Receiver Ready with Dallas Darling Color Scheme - FMS065DD
This FMS P51B Dallas Darling is an absolutely fantastic flyer. This is one of our favorites because of the spectacular flight characteristics, shock absorbing landing gear, removable battery tray, and ample power. There is enough stock power to pull off many acrobatic maneuvers (see the P51B hover as if it were a 3D plane in the video) yet the gentle nature of this plane makes it a relaxing plane to fly. The battery compartment has ample room for a large battery while the removable tray makes it quick and easy to add or remove your LiPo battery. The FMS P-51B has extremely scale detail right down to the sequenced landing gear doors, super detailed shock absorbing landing gear, NAV lights, and flaps.
We really enjoy flying this plane and find it equally enjoyable to look at. The large 3 inch diameter tires and shock absorbing landing gear make this a perfect plane to fly from a grass field however you may need to shorten the outer fairing door (wheel pants) slightly if you have a field with very long grass. The plane has equally good ground manners on pavement. For those with a small vehicle, the wings are easily removable and there is a single cable from the wing to the fuse. The ailerons, flaps, lights, and retractable landing gear all plug into a "junction box" in the wing while a single cable runs from the junction box to the fuse. A second "junction box" exists in the fuse where the servo connectors fan out again to plug into the receiver. This makes for neat wiring and easy wing removal.

- June 5, 2015 - The stock motor is 4250-540Kv and the ESC is a 70A ESC. We measure 51A using the stock prop (static). You can upgrade to the FMS 4250-580Kv motor which will pull 62A (static) and yield a significant boost in performance. The 580Kv motor is 2mm longer so there will be a slight gap between spinner and cowl.

Door & Gear door sequencer.
For the guys like me that want the main gear doors to close after the gears are down and locked, replace the original sequencer(3-second) and buy the FMS-SEQUENCER-6-SEC P51 and install it, then you have a true scale looking P-51B. I love this plane, have been flying mine for about two years now. This FMS P-51 is the only plane (I believe) that also has the tail wheel retract. I'll be buying my second P-51B here soon cause the one I have now is almost worn out, I fly it all the time. :-) Cheers, Ted
Is she ready?
I got my 51b a while ago. I finally assembled her to no thrills. Neither the flaps nor gear worked. I did some work on her (disabled the flaps and adjusted the gear), and now she appears to work...we shall see. More to come.
A Little Work and Poof: Superstang!
Motion RC rocks, no question. The kit came with a "Shipper-induced box modification" on one end, obviously for aerodynamics, fully expected. However, upon opening the HUGE box I found no damage at all, and a correct parts count as well. I'm an old guy now, and figure with all the high tech stuff it was time to step up to a big scale Warbird foamy with real working retracts, with flap control means confidence in landing. She's a real beauty, the -B. The model reflects that beauty till you see the stickers(wish they weren't applied) and the popcorn, but that stuff is super easy disappear. So are the panel lines. And here's where a little work and Poof: I am a Master Class scale modeller and will put my spray and airbrush expertise to the test. Yep, she's big enough to replicate rivets and fasteners. You Tube Video to come! Thanks again all who helped me decide what I got, and what I'm going to get as well. Trust these guys, they got Moms!
I have had a dozen p51s over the years. I even owned a hobby shop for 12 years. I have to say, this is the best P51 that I have ever owned. The detail is awesome, and the flying is next to none. You will not be disappointed in this airplane
FMS P51B Initial Quality
Very poor out of box quality. I'm very disappointed with FMS. Almost all plastic clevises had to be replaced because they broken and not installed properly. Two of the wing servo arms were not centered in their travel so the arms cut into the skin of the wings. I had to remove the screws and re-center the arms on three servos. The servo pushrods could have been a quarter inch longer as there is not much thread holding the clevises on. There also appears to be a problem with the junction - sequencer board because the tailwheel and doors do not work at all. I don't see how this model could've been functionally tested before being shipped out. If I had bought this at a hobby shop I would be bringing it back for a replacement. I don't have any real confidence that this peticular model will fly correctly. I know this is an FMS company issue and is no fault of MotionRC, but I'm inclined to not ever buy an FMS model again. My MotionRC order number is 208600 dated 11/27/2016. To make matters worse, I didn't get a surprise gift in the box. Only kidding, not a deal breaker. Thank you for your time. Ken Osborne

Outer Fairing Doors
These doors don't like grass unless you plan on landing on a putting green. :) Be aware grass landings can tear the pants off you.
Beautiful plane, and different from the rest! 4.5 stars
I love the way the P-51 looks in the air. Very graceful. I also have the E-flite Dallas Doll but wanted something bigger. Everyone has a P-51D. Thats why I chose the P-51b. Assembly: the wiring supplemental was great and helped insure everything was plugged in correctly. The wire harnesses are a great idea if you have to disassemble for transport. I found a you tube video on the assembly and found it invaluable : To get the two WING halves to mate without a gap I flattened the dihedral wing tube about 50% and had to grind the plastic tubes sticking out of the wings. If you don't, the wing roots stick out, there will be a gap between the wing halves and the screws will be hard to get in. 1st flight: Needs lots of right rudder and 75% power (without gyro) on take off. First flight with a 3300 mah battery, centered on the tray and pushed all the way in. Some up elevator trim. Next flight with 3600 mah battery, battery end aligned with the rear of the tray, tray pushed all the way in. A little more fine trim up. Now it's set. 3300 center of tray/ 3600 about 1/2" back. Lands great with. 1/2 flaps. Full flaps, need a little power to keep from stalling. 4 stars because one of the horns on the trunnions broke and the gear collapsed. Emailed MRC on a Saturday, called them on Monday and they had already sent a new retract. I will keep monitoring the retracts. The side walls where the worm gear and pin slide are plastic. I may replace with metal ones available aftermarket. FMS's quality, Fit, finish, paint and details awesome! MRC customer service, awesome!
Sitting here, ordering #2 because I have enjoyed #1 so very much (until this morning when the tree jumped out in front of it - don't you hate it when that happens?) Flight #19 didn't end well, darn it! The plane flies wonderfully. It was a prefect step for me into the Warbirds. It never does anything radical, it's smooth as silk and the fly-bys are a blast. It looks great in the air. Fit and finish are high quality and the kit goes together quite easily and quickly. As stated in my previous review I had issues with a couple of the clevises being weak, but other than that, it's a stellar model. There's an easy fix for the landing gear falling out (happened on my 5th flight) - take the inner strut out of the gear by removing the 3mm cap screw and disconnecting the little elbow. Take a 3mm set screw (grub screw) and screw it into the threaded hole in the inner strut on the opposite side that the cap screw came out of. Thread it in far enough so that it's a thread or two below flush. Put it all back together now and you'll see that the gear retaining cap screw bottoms out against the grub screw, locking the cap screw in place. Just a snug tight is good. Check the gear for smooth movement. If it's binding, screw the cap screw in a little bit more.
P-51 Dallas Darling
Shipment arrived in one piece. Small ding on the wingtip. No issues assembling aircraft. First fight was smooth as silk. Very little trim adjustment. Plane looks real in the air. Hopefully the future will bring hinges and better control surface hardware.
