Parts are Parts!

A pretty tough wheel assembly. I sheered off the bottom half in a nose in, angled crash. When I received my new one I oiled the suspension and had it installed in about 2 minutes! Glad MRC had it in stock! HaHaHaHaa

FMS Sky Trainer 182 Shock Absorbing Nose Gear - Red

I think this piece is just as prone to bend as the original piece, when the plane has a rough landing..

Thanks for another fast shipment!

I bought this nose wheel along with a replacement spinner to repair crash damage. The assembly was quick and easy and it looks great. Watch the video. The suspension does feel a bit stiff but it is used to absorb the shock of a hard landing. I have to trust that it is engineered correctly. Thanks again Motion!

Nice scale but breaks easy

I'm fairly new to RC planes. This is my second flying season and I've been spending a lot of time practicing takeoffs and landings. Needless to say, I've had many fairly hard landings. The nose gear doesn't hold up and either bends or breaks. I now keep several with me at the flying field. You'll want to invest in some spare steering horns as well as they are made of plastic and break easy.

Beware of the torsion links...and binding issues

PROBLEM: Besides the spring being WAY too strong for a lightweight plane (read, replace with 2 ballpoint pen springs interleaved), the torsion bars on these replacement parts are assembled backwards at the factory. The first time you compress the strut it will break the top one. SOLUTION: Take them off, remove the screws, spin them around and reassemble. Be sure they allow full travel without binding after reassembly. Don't ask me how I found out about this problem, just send me $11.00 or so to buy another one.) I recently purchased 3 of these and all 3 were the same way. (I can only use 2 of them with the torsion bars now.) Good thing they're only 12orative. PROBLEM: As stated by someone else, polish and lubricate the top tube and bottom shaft of the strut itself until it moves freely, then it's fine, but until then, expect them to bind going up and down. SOLUTION: I recommend using an electric drill. A drill bit to ream out the inside of the top piece (leave it the way it is afterward, don't polish it after drilling...any marks left will assure it holds grease/oil). Put the bottom part in the drill chuck and use very fine (800 grit or better) wet/dry sandpaper on a flat surface. Spin the bottom part against the flat paper. Higher grit can be used for a smoother, more polished finish, but really not necessary. Clean both parts with brake cleaner and **** with lithium grease then assemble. You'll think your're either a master machinist or a magician afterwards. Would sure be nice if these had aluminum torsion bars instead of plastic (or simply assemble them right in the first place) and steel uppers instead of aluminum. Other than these 2 issues, they're a fine replacement part...colors match & they do what they're supposed to (after slight modifications above). Customer service is excellent from Motion, never a complaint...always a pleasure, and exactly what to expect from a Veteran Owned Company...(I'm a Vet too and ALWAYS support VOC's...)
