F-4D Phantom II "Ghost Grey" Ultra Performance 8S 90mm EDF Jet from Freewing - PNP - FJ31222P

Version Note:  This is the 8S version which comes with a 90mm 12 Blade EDF 8S Power System with a 4075-1390kV In-Runner Motor and 150A ESC.

Freewing F4-D Phantom II 90mm EDF Jet - Winner for Best Scale Jet at 2018 AEF.Aviation enthusiasts have long loved the F-4 Phantom, and Freewing and Motion RC are extremely proud to introduce our 90mm Super Scale Series rendition of this ultimate warfighter!  For more than 50 years, the F-4 Phantom delivered the versatile capabilities required of an all-weather frontline supersonic interceptor, fighter-bomber, SEAD, and reconnaissance platform. Less than a year after its retirement from US military service, you can still keep the F-4 Phantom flying in your RC fleet!

This limited edition “Ghost Grey” version honors two distinguished men in our customer family, General Keith “Shadow” Stalder who flew BuNos 061007 as part of US Marines Squadron VMFA-531 “Grey Ghosts”, and Robert “Hoot” Gibson who flew with the US Navy’s VF-111 “Sundowners” aboard the USS Coral Sea in 1972-1974. A detailed waterslide decal set is included depicting both pilot’s aircraft, and we are grateful for their input to help us ensure these decals’ accuracy! Join us in proudly flying General Stalder’s and Hoot Gibson’s aircraft’s markings, or for pilots wanting to customize their F-4 with their own scheme, we recommend Callie-Graphics.com.

RC pilots have consistently requested a large F-4 EDF jet that performs excellently out of the box without endless modifications. We developed this F-4 to deliver reliability, durability, and performance from your very first flight.  Grass operation is a hallmark of the Freewing 90mm F-4. With its wide stance, tall main tires, Oleo suspension nose strut and concealed trailing link suspension main struts, this aircraft performs well on rougher grass fields.

Super scale details include accurate dual landing lights flush-mounted into the scale operating nose wheel doors, DayBright position lights, rivet detail, static arrestor hook, and period accurate ordnance comprising four AIM-9D Sidewinders and two 370 gallon fuel tanks on removable hardpoints. Plastic details include pitot tubes, ejection seat pull rings, and molded exhaust nozzles.  The large fiberglass nose cone is magnetic and removable, and the chin pod beneath it is foam, allowing easy removable and customization for other versions (-C or late -D). An optional, highly detailed 3DPUP set (“3D Printed Upgrade Part”) is available that represents the correct Mk H-7 ejection seats and cockpit instrument panels in high detail. Download the 3D Print-ready files for free!

Such a large RC model aircraft remains easy to transport with magnetic removable fiberglass nose cone and removable wings with a convenient flexible wire harness that attaches at each wing root.  Large flaps, brass ball links, reliable control hardware, and digital servos throughout the aircraft provide positive control, and a specially designed elevator mechanism incorporates two ball bearings for smooth rotation at all times.

The Freewing 90mm F-4 Phantom II is available in two power system versions.  The Standard version requires a 6S 5000-6000 mAh LiPo battery, and is our top recommendation to pilots seeking the best balance between speed, thrust, and cost. The High Performance version requires an 8S 5000 mAh LiPo battery, and delivers increased vertical climbing performance and acceleration. The High Performance version is recommended for Advanced pilots only due to the aircraft’s higher speed envelope and heavier flying characteristics.

Own the biggest and best performing foam EDF F-4 Phantom in the world – Rejoice RC pilots, Freewing has delivered another grand slam!

Product Updates:

  • Sept 21, 2018  -  This update is specific to the new Grey color version of the 90mm F-4D. The grey version of this model includes two decal sets, one Marines "Grey Ghosts" and one Navy "Sundowners." The plane comes painted to accept the decals for the Grey Ghosts variant. If you wish to use the Navy Sundowner livery, it will look best if you paint your vertical stabilizer red before applying the decals to the tail section. Use a foam safe paint such as basic latex paint available at major hardware stores.
  • March 22, 2018   -   For modelers with access to a 3D Printer or who want to use a third party 3D printing service, we are offering for a limited time the original .STL files for free download.  Modelers are responsible for preparing the file for their own printer’s specifications.  These downloadable files are ideal for modelers who enjoy tinkering with printer settings and materials.  Please note, we only provide the .STL files themselves; we cannot provide tech support for your specific printer.   By downloading the .STL files, you agree to not monetize the file in any way without Motion RC’s express written consent.  If you have your own 3D printer, or have access to one, you can download the STL files directly at this link.  (There are 22 total STL ladder, cockpit and nozzle files, formatted for 3D printing included in this .ZIP file).

Awesome

The F-4 has been a long time favorite of mine and after some very careful consideration i pulled the trigger. It was actually a benefit that the tail wasnt painted as it made customization easier. Both decal sets were beautiful, however i purchased a set from callie graphics to finish the model. Assembly was super easy and the battery compartment easily fit my 6s and 2s batteries. Balance was perfect with the batteries just behind the underside of the cockpit bump. So many great accessories are available to add to this already outstanding model.

Phantom overview

First things first. This is a really great model, and I am sure it will build into a fantastic flying EDF. The first look though has shown up a few MINOR niggles that are a shame considering how nice the kit is in general. The Sundowners markings are missing the shark eyes and the tail markings are presented in a totally bonkers way..... I have a Freewing ME262 V2 and the paint and general finish on that is now my yardstick. Honestly it's fantastic. Sadly, the paint on the Gray Phantom is not so great. I think this grey version has been rushed into the market place because modellers wanted a grey Phantom. Sadly because of that, it's not as great finish wise in either paint or the decals. But I want to be totally fair and clear, that the model still looks and feels a great product. It just needed a bit more care with regard to the paint and markings side. I am looking forward to building and flying this model very much, but if you want a perfect paint Job, then take a long drooling look at the finish on the ME262. Gordon Fraser. U.K.

Another Winner

Great jet, very nice looking and everything was well thought out. I must say I was a little disappointed upon learning that I had to paint the tail in order to use either of the two provided schemes, which in my opinion disqualifies this as a PNP product, but I can't let my laziness take away from how great Freewing and Motion RC are. I'll assume this was just a production oversight or communication breakdown. There were no other issues assembling it and I'm especially impressed with the landing gear for a foamy. The lights are a real nice touch as well. The recommended CG and flying stab angle seemed spot on for my first few flights. I did however need a good amount of left trim, and don't forget to add some up elevator on your flap mix. My first flight was a real handful to say the least, but that was just me needing to adjust to the plane. I have multiple FreeWing jets and a collection of turbine jets, and you definitely have to fly this one. Don't think you can just chop the throttle on the downwind leg and float in for a landing - you have to fly this jet all the way to the ground, and keep on the power in your final turn. With that said, it flies great and goes where you point it. My first flight was with drop tanks and missiles installed, but I didn't really care for the way it handled. Second flight I went without the drop tanks and it seemed much more manageable. The 8S is definitely plenty of power. I ended up with four successful flights on the first day out and each one got better and better, and by flight number four I was comfortable really wringing it out and flying aggressively. I forgot to install a gps sensor but I would guestamate that it was scooting along at about 120mph. I won't know about flight times until I charge all my batteries again, but I went with an abundance of caution for day one and set the timer for 3 minutes. Looks great in the air but be warned the ghost gray camo works - it is hard to see! Keep it close. This jet is not for beginners. If you are looking for your first foamy get the 80MM F-86 first and also maybe try a Stinger or Avanti before this one. Overall extremely satisfied and Motion RC is becoming legendary for their customer service.
