24.3" Wingspan Hobbyzone Sport Cub S Beginner RC Airplane with SAFE™ - Ready to Fly (RTF) - HBZ4400

The Hobbyzone Sport Cub S is another beginner RC plane recommended by Motion RC. The HobbyZone Sport Cub S is a small size plane which allows a beginner to learn to fly an RC plane in a small area. If you live in a place without a lot of wind and you would like to learn to fly an RC plane in a small area, this beginner RC plane is for you. The HobbyZone Sport Cub S is budget friendly since it includes everything you need at this price.

Another advantage of this beginner RC plane is the SAFE™ gyro flight stabilization technology. The trainer plane will auto correct itself with the push of a button should you get out of shape or into trouble. As you gain confidence, you can turn SAFE down and learn loops, rolls, and inverted flight. This is a 4 channel beginner RC plane so you can learn the use of ailerons and rudder. The included receiver is a Spektrum receiver which makes it easy to find an instructor to "buddy box" with should you want to go that route for learning.

Small and light beginner RC planes like the Sport Cub S do not sustain much, if any, damage during an inevitable crash by a beginner. If it does sustain damage, parts a small and inexpensive to replace. The bigger they are the harder they fall is indeed true in the world of RC planes. Small light RC planes line the Sport Cub S always sustain less crash damage. However, larger planes are often easier to fly because they are easier to see and handle wind with ease. You must weigh the pros and cons for your area. Please take into account the wind in your area, the size of the area, the landing surface (grass vs pavement), and of course your budget.

Pros and Cons of this plane:

  • Pro - Low price of entry, low price of spare parts.
  • Pro - Small light planes often sustain little to no damage during crashes.
  • Pro - SAFE™ stabilization technology makes learning on your own easy.
  • Pro - Spektrum™ receiver makes it easy to find an instructor should you wish to seek out an instructor.
  • Pro - Small plane allows Learning to fly in a small area such as a large back yard.
  • Pro - 4 channel plane allows a beginner to lean ailerons and elevator.
  • Con - Small planes are easily tossed around by the wind.
  • Con - The Sport Cub S uses a brushed motor which have a limited life span. However replacements are inexpensive.

Easy to Fly. Good for learning

I ordered this plane so I could learn how to fly RC. This plane makes it easy with multiple modes that increase with difficulty. I use these modes to teach myself. The wind has a large effect on the aircraft. So I recommend to only fly with minimal wind. The plane seems brittle and easy to break, but I have had many hard landings resulting with the aircraft ending upside down with no damage. Still be careful though! Highly recommend for new flyers. Very Pleased with purchase.

Great trainer

I bought this plane in late July as my first plane, and now I have sufficient confidence and skill to loop. It takes crashes well, and I would recommend it as a trainer to any one who asked me for my advice.

Respect the Wind

This is a wonderful trainer and my first flight on a calm day went without a hitch. My fear of flying disappeared completely. On my second flight I launched the plane too hard and it looped over my head and broke the propeller. No big deal. Lesson learned. Just release the plane and it will take off flying. Remember how light it is. My third flight was a disaster. The wind was around 6 mph according to the weather. I launched the plane and it took off like a hot air balloon in the direction of the prevailing wind. Nothing I could do would cause it to reverse direction. It wound up flying into a nearby lake. Please heed the wind restrictions mentioned in the overview. Remember that this airplane weighs 2 ounces! My advice is not to fly anytime the wind is not totally calm. Respect this limitation and you will love the plane. I will probably buy another one. Hope this helps someone.

Good Choice for First Plane

Shipped in good box and received in perfect condition Good quality plane construction and material Everything works fine on plane and radio Disappointed with battery life for flying under load (6 min) Very light weight and not good for flying on windy days Enjoy flying plane Good price

Perfect First RC Airplane

It's docile and flies slow enough for beginner pilots to react in time to prevent crashes. In SAFE advanced modes (Intermediate and Expert) it allows beginners to hone new skills and gain experience. As others mention it flies best in light wind, less than 10 mph. It will easily fly 6 minutes on a fully charged battery. It was my first RC airplane that I continue to enjoy.

This is a great starter plane

My son and I bought this plane and have loved it. It is a tough little plane. We have crashed it into trees several times and kept on flying. I thought I was ready for expert mode and did a nosedive into the dirt which broke to motor mount loose. So I am back to buy some foam glue to fix it. In hindsight I wish I would have bought the glue with the extra batteries when we first ordered the plane.
