Freewing Super Scorpion 80mm EDF Jet - PNP
Freewing Super Scorpion 80mm EDF Jet - PNP - FJ20711P
Freewing partnered with Aviation Design, the original creators of the Super Scorpion, to scale down their large turbine-powered fiberglass jet into a compact electric powered 80mm EDF foam variant. The same exciting sport jet characteristics of the original Super Scorpion all remain: stable acrobatic maneuvers at all speeds including four point rolls and tall Cuban 8's, a predictable and gentle stall behavior, agile flight characteristics, slow full flap passes and landings, and more! Pilots can experience the performance handling of a purpose-built sport acrobatic jet in a unique design which is sure to turn heads at your local flying field.
Freewing's 80mm Super Scorpion is the perfect size for easy transport yet still containing the thrust of a 6s 80mm 12 blade power system. The rigid, carbon fiber reinforced wings are removable with screws, as are the unique vertical stabilizers, and full flying horizontal stabilizers. Metal gear servos on the elevator ensures positive control. The Super Scorpion also uses the larger Stinger 90-sized nose retract and trailing link struts all around for durable grass field operation. Plastic main gear doors and a spring-hinged full coverage nose gear door minimizes drag. A smartly designed NACA duct in the bottom of the nosecone draws air into the battery compartment to cool the battery.
For pilots who have flown other aircraft in Freewing's 80mm Jet Series, the Super Scorpion blends the stability of the F-86 Sabre in an agile package slightly slower than the Mirage 2000. While the Super Scorpion has a wider fuselage than the Mirage, we appreciated the Super Scorpion's larger battery bay to accommodate our Admiral 6s 4000, 4500, or 5000 mAh-sized battery packs. The Super Scorpion is designed for intermediate to advanced EDF pilots.

As usual, another amazing EDF Jet from Motion RC! Packaged perfectly, straightforward build, and an amazing flyer! Maiden required only 2 clicks of trim. The Super Scorpion tracks through the air so smoothly and swiftly and is my new favorite! It also has a distinct EDF sound like no other EDF Jet that I’ve owned. Thanks Motion RC!!!
Good quality, but hard to fly
Assembly and setup was fine, but when I maidened it lawn darted at terminal velocity. I cant explain it other than a control surface failed.
ELEVATOE HALVES NEED TO BE MORE TIGHT ON SHAFT.
Nice looking plane...
Great flying plane. However, as mentioned in earlier posts, landing without bouncing is difficult. Maybe a better pilot can do better. I'd prefer the Avanti and L-39 over this jet. They are both larger and easier to see and they land much easier.
Well flying speedster
This is my new favorite plane, replacing the Futura 80mm. Easily flown from a short airfield and a real crowdpleaser with it's fast lowpasses and great sound. - Easily assembled with limited gluing and some screws. - The manual is a little confusing, since it's targeted at KIT or ARF versions. It has a bunch of steps that aren't required for the PnP version. - The landing gear is good and can be used on short grass. - Full landing flaps (60°-ish deflection) are pretty effective and will keep speed down and landing flare short, but keep throttle at 10-15% until the wheels are on the ground.
Great Looking Model
I am in the process of gaining skill and confidence in transition from multi-rotor to planes to jets. Couldn't resist buying this one in advance based on other reviews, power, size and look. I know it will be a blast to fly and further the learning curve. Motion RC is a hassle free, fast and responsive retailer and has been a pleasure to deal with, either chatting or calling with questions, After a 40 year with a Retail Electronics Chain store, I truly recognize great customer service when I experience it and MOTION RC deserves your first consideration. I will provisionally rate some aspects below but expect that I will regard my purchase as great value.... DSQUARED55
Good jet a bit under powered for my liking. It’s flys great at WOT any less in corners and it requires some flying. Lands awesome don’t stress the bounce scare just land better lol fun Jet looks great. Elevator trim is key check out pilots ryans position before flight I set to he location and did well
Very Nice Flying Jet
Assembly was quick and easy. The instruction manual was not very helpful. You wind up just following the pictures. Glued the wing halves together, the tail cone on, and the tail nozzle blocks. The rest fit together with screws very nicely. I was worried about takeoff length because I fly on a grass strip. I read other reviews that said the plane needed 200' to take off so I took it to the far side of my field. To my surprise the plane lifted off in about 50' with half flaps. Got the gear and flaps up but realized I needed to dial in more up elevator throw. The dual rates for the ailerons worked but made the elevator unresponsive. I flew it on the high rates and was able to land ok. My first couple of passes to land I did at full flaps and it seemed like too much drag to where the plane would fall out of the sky. I ended up doing half flaps and he came down nicely (no bounce). The second flight I dialed in more elevator, less exponential and corrected the DR for elevator to be minimal. The second flight was great. Plane was very fast and responsive and half flaps seems to work the best for my field. I have a 4000mAh and a 5000mAh 6c packs. The 5000 seems like a better fit and I get 4 minute flight times with 20% left for a go around or two. I love flying this thing and highly recommend it. You get a lot for your money.
Overall a good jet
This was my first EDF after years of flying conventional propellor driven aircraft. Overall I'm quite impressed with the quality of the aircraft, but there are a few issues here and there. Coming from pattern type aircraft it flies heavy and holds onto it's energy, which makes landing a challenge. As others have noted, it has a tendency to bounce if your decent is not arrested in the flare. The landing gear has a tendency to work loose, at least it does flying of my runway. I've yet to find a good solution to keep everything tight and tracking straight. I was very concerned when I first set up the elevator throws as per the manual, but after flying I can confirm it needs the authority. Overall it flies nice and is a good looking little jet. I'm going to put a Aura 8 gyro in it to see if I can get it to fly a little more precise.
