CORRECT MANUAL AND CG LOCATION

Early printed manuals included in some A-4 product boxes show an unclear CG position. Download the correct manual here: Freewing 80mm EDF A-4 Updated Product Manual. In order to achieve the proper CG, please follow these recommendations:

1. For your maiden flight, balance the model upright, with the landing gear up (retracted), without any ordnance attached to the pylons, and without the magnetic avionics "hump" attached. In this condition, balance the model at the location shown in these photos, 190mm-195mm aft of the flat spot at the base of the cannon fairing.

2. This balance location can also be achieved easily by pushing the Admiral 6s 5000mAh battery fully forward in the battery bay.

IMPORTANT - Please make sure the position of your battery strap matches the picture shown here. If your battery strap is too far back (not centered with the battery) it will not be secured properly in the aircraft. Please check this carefully before flying your aircraft.

RECOMMENDED SETUP

After completing the model's primary assembly as directed in the Instruction Manual and testing all servos and wing connectors for reliable operation, you should perform the following steps:

  1. Align both of the ailerons so their upper surface is flush with the upper surface of the inboard wing.
Note that the aileron's wingtip's trailing edge will angle upwards slightly (shown below), this is normal.
  2. Align the elevator so it is level with the horizontal stabilizer.
  3. Program the High-Rate and Low-Rate throws as recommended in the manual.
  4. Program the Flap-to-Up-Elevator Mix as recommended in the manual. We recommend not slowing the flap servos from your radio transmitter. Flaps are not required for either takeoff or landing.
  5. Install the Admiral 6s 5000mAh battery fully forward in the battery bay (see picture above). If required, unscrew the battery floor and move the battery strap to the forward slot so that the battery holds the battery near its center. The Admiral 6s 5000mAh battery is the recommended battery for this model. A lighter or heavier battery may impact the handling of your model.
  6. For your aircraft's first maiden flight, fly without any ordnance attached to the pylons. On subsequent flights, after adjusting the CG, throws, and exponential to your personal preference, you may install the ordnance (2x AGM-12 Bullpup missiles and 2x Fuel Tanks) and the magnetic avionics "hump" according to your preference. As noted in the Instruction Manual, attaching the fuel tanks will shift more weight aft of the CG, so check your CG and make any necessary adjustments before flying with them for the first time.
