Metal upgrade retracts
Mechanically these are far superior to the standard plastic frame version. As always, the weak point is the electrical control circuitry. It WILL fail; just a question of when! You WILL learn to execute wheels-up grass landings!
Guys BEWARE Dito
I have an FMS 1700MM P-51 and installed these retracts to replace the stock ones which were horrible. These have more torque but after about 3 flights they stopped working. I'm going to try a set of E-flite retracts EFLG500. I spoke with a rep at Horizon hobby who said these retracts are very dependable
My fellow pilots !!! Beware of these retracts... I have the FMS 1700mm P-47 and the Seagull P-47 Razorback, I purchased these retracts for both planes and the reliability is no good... Before you put these in an expensive plane, CYCLE THROUGH.. Make SURE they don't bind up on you.. I love MotionRC and their customer Service, so this isn't a shot at them --- However these retracts have given me nothing but PROBLEMS PROBLEMS PROBLEMS... I'm switching over to the 90 class e-flite retracts..... Never had a problem with them..
The original retracts collapsed after one trip down the runway the replacement metal ones don't fit the P47 retract holes in wing whats that all about This requires cutting out the plastic retract cases and enlarging
great when they work
installed 2 in my fms p47 and after many times tweaking them to line up in the wheel well as the stock ones did i had one go bad and just stop working after only 10-12 cycles. glad i did this on the bench at home. i put the stock retracts (plastic ones) back in and they cycle fine many times and line up very well so i will stay with those for now until the all metal ones get the bugs out. newer is not always better and my stock gear on the 1450 v8 mustang has served me well hope the stock p47 ones do the same
These retracts were a direct fit for my p-47. They work every time.
Im a huge fan of motion RC so I bought these for my WOW planes Hawker Typhoon kit. Both work great right out of the box, been installed and cycled a dozen times flawlessly. It doesn't get much better than that!
Not a fan of these retracts
Bought 2. 1 failed after 3 flights. Will be contacting MRC tomorrow in hopes for a replacement.
Much improved over plastic unit but still not perfect
The metal retracts are well finished and have strong metal mounting rails. The up/down motion is not as smooth as the plastic retracts but may improve as it wears in. With metal to metal contact, the manufacturer should recommend what if any lubricant should be applied at the risk of attracting dirt. The plastic retracts are not well suited to the large 67 inch wingspan warbirds.
