PT-109 1/24 Scale 1030mm (40") US Navy Patrol Torpedo Boat - RTR from Bancroft - BNC1073-001
PT-109 was a U.S. Navy Patrol Torpedo (PT) boat that gained lasting fame due to its connection with John F. Kennedy, who commanded the vessel during World War II. Built by the Elco Naval Division, PT-109 was part of Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 2, operating in the Solomon Islands as part of the campaign against Japanese naval forces. These 80-foot wooden boats were designed for high-speed attacks, armed with torpedoes, depth charges, and machine guns. Though fast and agile, PT boats were lightly armored and highly vulnerable to enemy fire and collisions.
On the night of August 1, 1943, PT-109 was patrolling near Blackett Strait when it was suddenly rammed by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri, which emerged unexpectedly from the darkness. The collision sheared the boat in half, instantly killing two crew members. Despite being injured himself, Kennedy helped lead the remaining ten survivors to safety, swimming miles to nearby islands. He famously towed a wounded crewman by clenching a lifejacket strap in his teeth during the grueling journey.
Stranded for several days, the crew was eventually rescued after Kennedy carved a message into a coconut shell, which was delivered by local Solomon Islanders working with Allied forces. That very coconut later sat on Kennedy’s White House desk as a reminder of the event.
Bancroft is pleased to recreate this historically significant vessel in a fiberglass 40” model that is conveniently sized for ease of display and operation. Powered by three 550 brushed marine motors, the PT-109 features a 2S 2800mAh LiPo, convenient AC charger, and reliable 2.4GHz pistol grip radio system. In addition, the model features LED navigation lights and six crew figures for supreme realism. Simply add four AA alkaline batteries for the transmitter, charge battery, and the PT-109 is poised for operation!

Bancroft model boats are molded and hand finished using very intricate details and parts including metal, wood, plastic, and fiberglass. Because of their hand made nature, minor imperfections in the fiberglass, metalwork, or painting may exist, as well as variations from the photos. These potential imperfections will not affect the seaworthiness of the vessel or the overall scale boating experience. Bancroft scale RC boats are fragile so care should be taken when moving or transporting your model.
Some of the electronics in this Bancroft boat, including the Battery, ESC, Motor, and Receiver, are NOT intended to get wet; they are NOT water resistant. If any of these electronic components get wet and you attempt to operate your model, the water can cause an electrical short-circuit and void your warranty. In the rare instance that you get water inside your vessel, you should drain the water completely and allow all electronics to fully dry before attempting to operate your model.
