Looked Forward to another Lego Art-based Masterpiece

Thus, when another LEGO Art set featuring one of my favorite art pieces, the Great Wave of Kanagawa, showed up, I immediately set a notification so I could have this when it came out. Most of the art on my wall has darker frames, so I was a little sad that the frame on this one was beige, but that's just personal preference--no docking points for that. However, if I were to compare it to the Starry Night, I find it a bit lackluster. There are fewer layers and depth to the Great Wave than there were in Starry Night. Yes, that might be obvious to some, but I feel like there were *too* few layers. They could have made the waves come out even more to create more of an effect. Certainly, the dimensions of the Great Wave are notably bigger than those of the Starry Night, but they could have eliminated some of the pieces required for the background of the Great Wave and upped the layer count.Speaking of the background---it was incredibly mundane and dull to place so many circles. They could have done better with long, solid bricks instead. I get that they're still emulating the pixel art style of their World Map or other wall pictures, but I feel like this isn't supposed to just be a picture, filling in the pixels.
Nice enough, but no Starry Night

Beyond that, it made me see Van Gogh's masterpiece in a whole new way - three dimensions! I bought this set hoping for more of the same.Where the Van Gogh set plays with color by juxtaposing different colors, this set has a much less exciting palate. Where the Van Gogh set uses a variety of different building techniques, this one is much more traditional, and consequently less rewarding/interesting. It's basically just a bunch of dots that need to be laboriously applied to some baseplates. I recognize that part of this is the subject matter, which doesn't lend itself to the three dimensional treatment quite as well as Starry Night, but I can't help but be a bit disappointed by it.In the end, I'm happy with the finished product. It will go up on my bookshelf, but I doubt I'll spend much time looking at it. This set just relies too heavily on "dots" to be fun to build or interesting to look at afterwards. Perhaps it's time for a Lego version of Dali's Persistence of Memory or even Kandinsky's Yellow-Red-Blue? Until then, this is a nice enough companion piece to Starry Night, but it's not really in the same league.
Amazing!
I loved this Lego set! It is not the most entertaining set to build but it was an ok experience and the result is just amazing!

It's much larger then I thought and didn't fit within three shelves of my bookcase, so it's propped up for now. I look forward to the more artsy projects and another challenge, but I'm running out of room.
Beautiful Lego Set
The Hokusai painting is captured beautifully in this set. Amazing detail. Lots of small pieces so the build takes some concentration but the finished product is worth it.
